Portable barrier obstacle in 1:72 scale, Type.2 form

This accessory from E.T. Model will add Spanish riders to a diorama, that is Spanische Reiter, portable obstacles of crossed girders that closed off roads, gateways and gaps in field fortifications. It is a diorama item, not a model of military equipment. The Type.2 form differs from the first variant in the shape and the arrangement of the structure, so both sets can be combined in a single scene and the repetition of the same shape avoided. In a small scale the fine lattice structure can only be captured faithfully from a thin material.

What the accessory is for

The obstacle serves to block or narrow a gateway, to mark out a checkpoint and to fill gaps between other barriers. In a diorama it gives the scene a sense of scale and suggests the situation even without adding further vehicles or figures. It combines well with ground items such as sandbags, drums or rubble.

Fitting and painting tips

Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and work over a tray because of the size of the parts. Make the folds in a bender or between two blades, so that the structure stays regular. Glue them with cyanoacrylate applied on a pin. Apply a base coat for metal before painting. A dark base tone with light rust and a dust pigment at the foot looks natural. A few slightly bent girders and an uneven position of the individual pieces will give the scene credibility.
