A plastic kit of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa LR fighter in 1:72 scale from Kovozavody Prostejov - the long-range form.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa fighter in the long-range variant, in 1:72 scale. It is the LR designation that sets this release apart from the other Mk.IIa boxings - this is a machine reworked for a longer radius of action. The model is meant to be glued and painted.
The Spitfire Mk.II was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin XII engine and reached the squadrons from 1940. The long-range form dealt with the main weakness of the type - the small volume of its internal tanks - by means of an auxiliary tank carried under the left wing. The asymmetric arrangement did worsen the handling, but it allowed escort and barrier patrols over the English Channel and over the occupied mainland in 1941. The auxiliary tank is at the same time the most conspicuous mark of this version on a model.
Try the assembly dry, above all the mounting of the wing and the attachment of the auxiliary tank - the extra part easily upsets the symmetry if it seats crookedly. Glue with thin plastic cement. British camouflage schemes of this period have hard transitions, so mask with putty or tape. Clear-coat the areas gloss before the decals, use a decal softener once dry and bring the surface into line at the end with a matte overcoat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
