This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard is made by direct 3D printing in resin and contains a set of rounded three-stack exhaust stubs for models of the Supermarine Spitfire fighter in the Mk.I, Mk.II and Mk.V versions in 1:72 scale. It is not an airplane kit in its own right but a detail accessory that replaces the simplified plastic exhausts with faithful parts with hollow mouths and fine texture.
The early versions of the Spitfire with the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine carried short exhaust stubs on the sides of the engine cowling, led out from the cylinder banks. The exact shape of the exhausts differed between versions and production batches; the rounded three-stack type is one of the characteristic variants. Faithful exhausts are among the details that draw the eye most on a finished model.
Wash the print resin residue off the resin parts and separate them carefully from the print supports. Do the sanding with respiratory protection. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). For a faithful look, a combination of metal and rust and heat-stained shades followed by emphasis with pigments works well.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
