An injection-molded plastic model of the British fighter Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb in 1:72 scale, made by the Czech brand Kovozavody Prostejov. The Over Malta edition focuses on aircraft that defended the strategic island of Malta in the Mediterranean. The package contains decals for several color scheme options and finely detailed plastic parts.
The Spitfire Mk.Vb was a widely produced version of the famous fighter, powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 engine and armed with two 20 mm Hispano cannons and four machine guns. In 1942, Spitfire Mk.Vs became the key weapon in the defense of Malta, often flown off aircraft carrier decks straight into the air. The island was then facing a long aerial blockade, and its defenders were among the most hard-worked pilots of the war. The battle for Malta is one of the toughest episodes of the Mediterranean war, and the aircraft there carried a distinctive camouflage adapted to the environment of the island and the surrounding sea.
Glue the parts with modeling cement for plastic, and fill and sand the small joints smooth. In 1:72 scale, aim for clean gluing and thin coats of paint; apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. The camouflage of the Malta aircraft benefits from panel highlighting and subtle shading.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
