The Su-35S is a Russian twin-engined multi-role combat aircraft derived from the Su-27 family. Compared with the older machines of this family it received upgraded avionics and a cockpit with large-area displays instead of a forest of round dials. That cockpit is exactly what is visible on a model under the clear canopy and decides the impression of the finished work.
The set carries colored three-dimensional interior elements: the instrument panel, the side panels, the seat with harness and the rest of the cockpit equipment. The elements have real thickness, so they do not read as a print, and the colors and lettering are printed at the factory. Painting the tiny controls, which in 1:72 scale calls for a very steady hand, therefore falls away. The set is prepared for the kit from Great Wall Hobby.
The elements are applied like a decal: cut the part out, dip it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the decal backing paper into place. It has no adhesive layer of its own, so clean the surface, sand off the original molded detail and coat the area with gloss varnish. On an uneven spot a drop of cyanoacrylate helps; do not use a decal softener. Work before the fuselage is glued together, while the cockpit parts are still accessible.
The set suits modelers who want the cockpit of a modern fighter with legible displays without having to paint it. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
