A plastic model of the unarmed photo-reconnaissance version of the legendary Spitfire – the Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk.XIX in 1:72 scale. The version with the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine, built for reconnaissance at great altitudes and over long distances.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit in 1:72 scale captures one of the highest performing reconnaissance versions of the Spitfire. The PR Mk.XIX was an unarmed machine whose task was not to fight but to photograph – to bring back images from great altitudes and long routes where ordinary aircraft could not reach.
The Spitfire PR Mk.XIX was the unarmed photo-reconnaissance version powered by a Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. It was built between 1944 and 1946 and it lasted in front-line service until the mid-1950s. The design was optimized for flights at high altitudes and with a long range; later machines received a pressurized cabin, which made long missions in thin air easier for the pilot. After the war the PR Mk.XIX flew with the Royal Air Force and was also exported, for example to Thailand.
On the reconnaissance version the smooth, clean fuselage without armament comes into its own – careful sanding of the joints and fine panel lines pay off. Overall reconnaissance schemes are typical; a gloss base under the decals and a matte varnish at the end are recommended. Pay attention to seating the canopy exactly according to the version you choose, with a pressurized or an ordinary cabin.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
