An injection-molded plastic kit of the transport version of the carrier aircraft Grumman TBM-3R Avenger in 1:72 scale from Sword. It is a short-run kit - it calls for somewhat more careful preparation of the parts and a more experienced hand. The TBM-3R was a conversion of the torpedo Avenger into a carrier transport version, COD (Carrier Onboard Delivery), for carrying personnel and cargo to ships at sea. The Grumman/General Motors Avenger was a rugged carrier-based torpedo bomber of the Navy. A few aircraft were converted into the TBM-3R transport version, in which the armament was removed and space for passengers and cargo was created inside the fuselage - it served as a COD link between land and the aircraft carrier. The versions flew, among others, in US Navy colors during the Korean War and with other operators.
As with short-run kits, first clean the parts of any flash and dry-sand the mating surfaces. Bond the joints with liquid cement for plastic and the canopy glazing with canopy glue. Paint the interior before closing the fuselage. Naval aircraft usually wore dark blue or gray finishes - after a gloss coat and the decals, emphasize the panel lines with a wash and add service wear and salt marks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
