Injection-molded plastic kit of the American B-2A Spirit stealth bomber in 1:72 scale from Modelcollect. The boxing is released in the version with AGM-158 guided missiles. For this kit the manufacturer states a detailed interior and cockpit, a set of photo-etched parts and metal landing gear. Mind the size: according to the manufacturer the finished model measures 728 mm in span, 292 mm in length and 72 mm in height. It is one of the largest aircraft kits in this scale and it is worth measuring the space in your display case in advance.
The B-2 Spirit is an American strategic bomber designed as a flying wing. It has no conventional fuselage and no tail surfaces; the whole aircraft is one large rounded wing. The shape without vertical surfaces and sharp edges is one of the means of deflecting incoming radar waves away from the receiver instead of letting them reflect back, and together with an absorbent surface it makes the aircraft an extremely difficult radar target. The span is over 52 meters. It is one of the most expensive aircraft in history and only 21 were built. It carries bombs and guided missiles in internal bomb bays, because external racks would destroy the stealth qualities. The AGM-158 is a modern long-range guided missile that also has a reduced radar signature.
This is a model for the patient. The surface of the B-2 is smooth, matte and practically without pronounced panel lines, so surface preparation is absolutely crucial. Every seam, every gap and every imperfection in the filler will show on the large bare area, because it has nowhere to hide among the detail. Fill the joints of the wing halves thoroughly, sand them down through progressively finer grits and always spray primer before painting and check the surface against the light, even several times. Glue with liquid cement for plastic. Paint with an airbrush: a large continuous area in dark gray will reveal every uneven layer, so spray thin and in several passes. Put a gloss coat under the decals and flatten the finish once it has dried.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
