Hauler 1:72 VAB 4x4 is a photo-etched detail set for a plastic kit of the French wheeled armored personnel carrier in 1:72 scale. It is an aftermarket accessory to a kit, not the model itself.

A photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler for a kit of the French armored personnel carrier VAB in the form with four driven wheels, in 1:72 scale. The set is cut for the Heller kit. It is not a model of the vehicle: it is a set of thin metal parts that will replace the coarser plastic items and add what is missing from the kit.
A carrier has large vertical surfaces and little relief, so the resulting impression stands and falls with the small things around the perimeter of the hull: the grab handles, steps, light guards, grilles and equipment brackets. In injection-molded plastic these elements are necessarily thicker and have soft edges. Photo-etched sheet, by contrast, is thin and sharp; from a normal viewing distance it is precisely thinness that gives a model away as worked up.
The VAB is a French armored personnel carrier taken into service in the second half of the 1970s. It arose in forms with four as well as six driven wheels, it is amphibious and it was built in many purpose-built variants, from carrying a squad through command and signals to ambulance versions and carriers of weapon systems. Thanks to a long production run and extensive export it is among the most widespread wheeled carriers of Western manufacture.
Photo-etched parts are best worked while the item is flat and in the fret, so think out in advance which bends you will make before cutting it out. Long straight edges are managed by a photo-etch bending tool; anyone who does not have one clamps the part between two razor blades in a vise and folds it over with a steel rule. Glue it to the model with cyanoacrylate in minute drops. The metal has to be degreased and primed before painting, otherwise the paint will come off during handling. For the large smooth surfaces of a carrier, painting with an airbrush with a slight lightening of the centers of the areas suits well, so that the model does not look flat.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
