This is a small accessory for a scene in 1:72 scale, not a kit. The figure of twenty liters refers to the real subject, that is to the volume of an actual barrel; in 1:72 scale that comes out as a very small part, worked with tweezers. It is exactly such small things that make the difference between a model standing on a bare board and a scene that looks as if somebody lives and works in it.
A water barrel suits a field camp, a field kitchen, the yard of a repair workshop, a building site, a farm and also a town scene. It works well in a group with other small things — by a wall, under a gutter or on the bed of a vehicle. It also serves well as an element that covers a less successful joint in the base or fills an empty corner of a diorama.
Rid the part of casting residue and flash, level the surface of the bottom so that it stands square, and degrease the surface. Lay down a thin base. Choose the paint according to the material of the barrel you want to suggest: galvanized sheet will take a light gray base with a dark wash and fine wear on the edges, painted sheet will carry any shade with traces of flaking varnish, and a wooden version is done with a brown base and a grayish dry brush. With water it works well to suggest a trickle and a darker mark below the outlet.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue, a base and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
