About product

CMK 1:72 - resin exhausts for the Wellington Mk.II

A resin detail accessory in 1:72 scale meant for a model of the Vickers Wellington bomber in the Mk.II version. It is not an aircraft kit but a set of replacement exhausts, which take the place of simplified parts in plastic. Resin castings hold crisper edges and allow open mouths, which is exactly what shows most on exhausts - plastic parts out of the mold usually have them blanked off. The set is meant for a particular kit of this aircraft in 1:72 scale.

The real subject

The Vickers Wellington was a British twin-engine bomber with a characteristic geodetic airframe structure. The Mk.II version differed from the most widespread forms in its power unit: in place of radial engines it carried liquid-cooled V12 engines, which changed the shape of the engine nacelles and the layout of the exhausts. It is precisely that difference that makes the exhausts a mark of the type - a part from another version does not fit the Mk.II.

Usage tips

Wash the castings first in warm water with detergent, to rid them of any mold release agent, otherwise neither paint nor glue will hold. Separate the part from the casting block with a saw or a cutter and never snap it off - resin is brittle and breaks unpredictably. Sand the remains of the block smooth and do not inhale the dust from sanding; sand wet, ideally. Try the fit into the nacelle dry and adjust any overhang with a file. Glue with cyanoacrylate, and on larger areas with a slower-setting type, so that there is time to correct the position. Apply a primer before painting, as resin holds paint less well without it. Darken the mouths of the exhausts at the end and add smoke trails running back over the skin.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want to replace simplified plastic exhausts with a crisp casting.
  • Builders of British bombers in 1:72 scale.
  • Those who want exhausts correct for the version with V12 engines.
  • Modelers with experience of resin and cyanoacrylate glue.

The package holds only the resin accessory. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.

FAQ

It is not. It is a resin replacement part for a Wellington kit in 1:72 scale that you have already bought.

With cyanoacrylate glue. Ordinary plastic cement does not dissolve resin, so the joint would not hold.

Yes. Castings tend to carry residue of mold release agent, which keeps paint and glue from adhering. Warm water with detergent is enough.

The set is meant for the Mk.II, which had different engines from the more widespread versions. It does not suit machines with radial engines.
