Small modeling wing nuts with the 1 mm size designation. It is an accessory for building a model, not a kit and not a finished model. It is fitted where a quick-release fastening should be plain at a glance.
A wing nut turns up on vehicles wherever something is undone without tools: the mounts for engineer tools, the brackets for jerrycans and crates, tarpaulin frames, the fastening of covers or of accessories on fenders. In miniature it is a detail with a clear silhouette that kits usually handle only as a coarse lump. A separate part has visible wings and, once painted, makes a legible accent on a surface.
Plan the placing in advance, as a wing nut belongs only where a demountable joint makes sense. Cut the original lump off, level the face and drill the hole with a micro drill in a hand vise. Place the part with tweezers and turn the wings the same way across a whole group of mounts, as a consistent alignment looks more convincing than a random one. Bond it with the smallest drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin. After painting, a dark wash under the wings and light chipping of the edges will help the detail stand out.
