The Opel Blitz was the most widespread German truck of the Second World War. The military designation Kfz. 305 belonged to the three-ton version, which hauled supplies, ammunition and men and at the same time served as a chassis for all manner of bodies, from a flatbed with a canvas cover to a box body. So many were built that it turns up on practically every battlefield where the German army operated during the war, from Norway to North Africa.
It is precisely this ubiquity that makes the Opel Blitz a rewarding subject. On a diorama it holds the scene together: it gives it scale, hints at the rear echelon of a fighting unit and serves as a backdrop for figures and for hardware alike. It also looks good on its own in a display case, because its shape is recognizable at first glance. Before buying, compare the scale with the setting you are placing the vehicle into, so that the individual pieces match each other in size.
If you paint the vehicle yourself, work in thin coats and let each one dry. A truck in the field was never clean, so the result gains a great deal from dusting the lower part of the cargo bed and the fenders, darkening the gaps and gently bringing out the handling marks on the edges of the cab. Leave a track under the wheels that carries on into the surface of the base, so that the truck does not stand on the scene as if glued to a clean surface.
The contents of the package follow the manufacturer's data. Paints, glue and thinners are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
