24th Waffen Mountain Division Of The SS Karstjager Plaque 25mm is a badge plaque for a diorama. It serves to mark a base and is not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A diorama accessory meant to give a scene an unambiguous label. The plaque with the badge of the unit is fitted to a base, to a wooden plinth or to the edge of a shelf in a display case. It is not a model and nothing is built from it. The size designation 25 mm is part of the name, as is the honor title Karstjager, which refers to the karst terrain in which the formation operated.
The formation came about in 1944 by the expansion of an older battalion meant for fighting in karst terrain and was carried as a mountain division, although it never reached full divisional strength. It operated in the karst area on the borders of present-day Italy, Slovenia and Austria, where it was committed above all against partisan formations. It is precisely this narrowly defined area that sets the unit apart from the other formations in the range of plaques.
With a rocky scene the plaque sits best on a smoothly sanded front of the base, which forms a calm counterpoint to the broken terrain above. When you are building a karst outcrop from cast material, allow room for the plaque already when laying it out; sanding it down later tends to be unpleasant. Lightening the relief with a thin dark coat works here as well.
