28mm El Cid Andalusian Heavy Cavalry is a set of unpainted plastic figures of Andalusian heavy cavalry from the time of El Cid, in the 28 mm size intended for tabletop games and dioramas.

The set belongs to the range devoted to the period of El Cid, that is to the Iberian Peninsula of the 11th century. The figures are of plastic, are supplied unpainted and have to be assembled and painted before playing or display. The 28 mm size is the standard of historical tabletop games, so the figures can be combined with units from other manufacturers of the same size. For modelers they are interesting outside gaming as well — as the population of a small scene or as a standalone painting project.
Al-Andalus, that is the Muslim part of the Iberian Peninsula, was in the 11th century divided into smaller states called taifas. Their armies built on a combination of light cavalry with heavier riders in mail armor, armed with a lance and a sword and protected by a shield. It was precisely in this setting that the Castilian nobleman Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, known as El Cid, operated, a man who over the course of his career served both sides of the conflict. The period is rewarding for a collector through the variety of its equipment and the colorfulness of its fabrics.
First wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry, so that the paint holds well. Remove the parting seams with a scalpel and a fine file. A primer coat from a spray can or an airbrush is fundamental on figures; painting from the large areas to the details follows, then a wash into the folds and a lightening of the edges. With cavalry it pays to paint the horse and the rider separately and to join them only at the end. Mail armor is well captured by a dark base and a dry brush with a metallic paint.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
