Responsibility details are not available.
A figure from the large-format historical production of the Black Dog brand, set according to its name in the period around the year 1400. The Latin word armiger denoted a bearer of arms, that is, a man placed somewhere between the common fighter and the dubbed knight.
The turn of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries is the moment in European dress when mail is gradually replaced by plate components and when the equipment is for the first time shaped to the body. Gothic fashion reaches its peak at the same time: a close cut, strong colors in the cloth, divided fields of color. A figure from this time therefore stands on two entirely different surfaces, metal and cloth, and it is exactly their interplay that makes the result interesting.
Polished plate is the hardest part of the whole task. The point is not to brush the part with silver paint but to build it up over a dark base and put the light where it would really be reflected – that is, on the upper edges and the convex areas. The reflection of the surroundings benefits from mixing a little of the tone of the nearby cloth into the shadow. At the end, add restrained scuffs on the edges; overdone damage spoils the impression more than its complete absence. Choose the colored areas of the clothing so that they recur on the accessories as well, otherwise the figure looks assembled from unrelated pieces.
