The item belongs to the collector's range of figures from the Black Dog brand carrying the 75mm designation. It is not a kit of an aircraft or a vehicle but a free-standing figure meant to be finished and painted; it will come into its own in a display case as well as the centerpiece of a small scene.
The Normans came from Norse settlers who established themselves on the lower Seine in the 10th century and took on the language and customs of the Frankish world. During the 11th century they became an expansionist force: they took control of England after 1066, made their mark in Sicily and southern Italy, and their military equipment – the long mail shirt, the helmet with a nasal and the almond-shaped shield – spread across the whole of Western Europe.
It works to proceed from a dark base toward lighter layers: first the overall undercoat, then shading into the folds and finally the edges picked out with a dry brush. Chain mail calls for a different sheen than cloth, so it pays to separate the metal surfaces from the fabric as early as the planning of the shades. Paint the face in several thin layers and leave the eyes for the very end.
The figure is sold to be finished by you, so the color scheme is yours to choose according to your own idea of the period.
