A figure of a Scythian warrior 75 mm tall. A steppe horseman and archer from the ancient world, suited to display on its own in a case.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Scythians were nomadic horsemen from the steppes north of the Black Sea, and ancient sources know them above all as archers who shot from horseback. Their equipment included a short composite bow, a case carried at the waist that held both the bow and the arrows, a short sword and scale armor made of small plates sewn onto leather. Scythian ornament in the animal style is famous, that is, decoration with the elongated bodies of deer, cats and birds of prey. It is precisely that which gives a painter the most room.
This is a figure of a Scythian warrior 75 mm tall. The number in the name gives the height of the subject, not a scale. At this size the face, the fall of the garments and the small metal ornaments all come into their own, so the figure suits display on its own rather than a crowded diorama.
Cut off the excess material and the marks left by production with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand what is left, so that the surface detail does not disappear. Wash and degrease the figure before painting; paint holds poorly on a greasy surface. Cyanoacrylate glue will join the parts securely. It pays to paint separately those areas the brush cannot reach once the parts are glued. On steppe clothing an approach from a dark base toward highlighted edges works well, and the metal ornaments come alive when a darker shade is laid into the recesses. The particular assembly sequence is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
For collectors and figure painters looking for a less usual subject from antiquity, outside the familiar ranges of Roman and Greek warriors. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
