800# Sand belt replacement

What it is for

A replacement sanding belt for modeling work, of 800 grit. It is a consumable part: the grain clogs and blunts during work, and when the belt no longer bites, it is exchanged for a new one without your having to buy the whole tool. The 800 grit belongs to the fine steps that come in turn only at the close of surface work.

When to reach for a fine grain

Coarser papers level the shape and remove excess material after a part is cut off, and the fine steps then smooth away the scratches that remain. Put a belt of 800 grit to work therefore only after coarser sanding, when you want to prepare a surface under a primer, level dried putty or smooth a joint so that the surrounding detail stays whole. For removing larger irregularities this grain is needlessly fine and the work would drag on needlessly.

Sanding tips

• Sand with short strokes and without pressure, a fine grain works by itself
• Wipe both the part and the belt as you go, sanding dust clogs the grain
• On rounded shapes alternate the direction of the stroke, so that no flat spot arises
• Check the work against the light, scratches are visible from a sharp angle
• Before painting, wash the part and let it dry perfectly
