Injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet fighter Polikarpov I-16 in the small 1:144 scale from the firm Zvezda. It is a snap-fit kit that can be put together without glue - the parts fit into each other. The package contains a stand for display and decals; the finished model measures only a few centimeters, so it also suits a display case or a group of models.
The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet monoplane fighter of the nineteen thirties with a short, stubby fuselage and retractable landing gear - a modern and nimble machine in its day. It went through the Spanish Civil War in combat as well as clashes with Japan, and despite being obsolete it still took part in the opening fighting on the Eastern Front in 1941. It earned a range of nicknames for its appearance and is one of the icons of Soviet prewar aviation.
Although it is a snap-fit, we recommend putting a drop of liquid glue into the seating joints for strength and cleaning up the marks left by the sprue gates. Clean work shows in a small scale: apply a thin base coat, spray the paints heavily thinned and rather suggest the details, such as the national insignia and the panel lines. Because of the size, choose a fine brush or an airbrush with a narrow spray pattern.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
