A twin pack of injection-molded plastic kits in 1:144 scale from the German manufacturer Revell. The box holds two separate models of the British fighters with which the Royal Air Force went into the defensive campaign of the summer of 1940: the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Ia and the Hawker Hurricane Mk.I. The Model Set version adds the basic paints, a brush and glue.
The Spitfire Mk.Ia was an all-metal fighter with the distinctive elliptical wing, a Merlin engine and the armament in the wing. The Hurricane Mk.I appeared somewhat earlier and built on an older structure with a lattice fuselage and fabric covering over the rear section; it was slower, but sturdy, easy to repair and it took damage well. In service the two complemented each other, and at the time it was the Hurricane that made up the numerically stronger part of the fighter squadrons.
A scale of 1:144 means small parts, so cut them off with a fine saw and apply the glue drop by drop with a fine brush so that it does not run onto visible surfaces. In this scale the upper camouflage pattern is best done with a stencil cut from masking tape, or carefully with a brush and well thinned paint. Spray the light undersides first. The decals are small, so it pays to work with tweezers and to lay them into an intermediate gloss clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. According to the manufacturer, the Model Set contains the basic paints, a brush and glue; other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
