An injection-molded plastic kit of the large four-engine Tu-142MR aircraft in 1:144 scale by Trumpeter. The Bear-J designation belongs to the communications version derived from the Tu-95 family. The set contains airframe parts with fine surface relief, a basic cockpit, landing gear and a decal sheet. Check the exact contents against the enclosed instructions.
The Tu-142MR was an airborne communications and relay aircraft of the Soviet and Russian Navy, derived from the Tu-95 and Tu-142 family. It served to pass orders to ballistic missile submarines, for which it carried a long trailing wire aerial stowed in a ventral pod. It was a high-altitude machine with long range and characteristic contra-rotating propellers.
In this small scale take care over clean joints and cleaning up the parting lines. Finish the wheel wells and the cockpit before closing the fuselage. A primer base and airbrush spraying pay off; the metal and natural shades of the airframe come to life with gentle panel shading. Glue the small aerials with super glue.
