U-Boat Type XXIII 1:144 (ICM) is a plastic kit of the small German coastal submarine of the Second World War from the generation of the so-called electric boats. It is a compact, cleanly shaped model.

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Type XXIII coastal submarine of the end of the Second World War, in 1:144 scale from ICM. The model captures the small, hydrodynamically clean hull with a low conning tower, characteristic of the late generation of German submarines. The set is crisply molded with fine surface detail and contains decals. Thanks to the small real subject the finished model is compact. The exact parts count and the decal schemes are given in the instructions in the box.
Type XXIII, together with the larger ocean-going Type XXI, belonged to the new generation of German so-called electric boats designed in 1943. It was a small coastal submarine with the emphasis on performance under water: strong batteries and a smooth hull gave it high underwater speed for its day and the ability to stay submerged for a long time. Final assembly took place in the yards at Hamburg and Kiel. These boats reached combat only at the very end of the war.
The small smooth hull benefits from careful filling and sanding of the seam — on a submarine a seamless surface is the key. Decide on the position of the masts and the periscope before you close up the conning tower. We recommend a base coat, a uniform dark shade with an airbrush and restrained weathering; on late boats light rust streaks and salt marks work well. Glue the small parts carefully with liquid cement for plastic and set the finished model up according to the instructions.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
