An extensive plastic kit of the Panther Ausf.G medium tank in its early production form in 1:16 scale. The kit holds more than two thousand three hundred parts on dozens of sprues, a detailed interior of the hull and the turret, individual track links, a metal barrel, copper cable and photo-etched parts. The finished model measures over 55 cm, so this is a long-term project and a prominent display piece rather than a weekend build.
The Panther Ausf.G was the most numerously produced version of the German Panzerkampfwagen V medium tank, and its production was ramping up in 1944. Against the earlier versions it had a simplified hull with continuous sloped side plates and without a separate driver's vision port in the front plate, which made manufacture easier. The armament was a 7.5 cm gun with a long barrel, and the power came from a twelve-cylinder Maybach gasoline engine of around seven hundred horsepower. Early machines of the G series still carried a number of features taken over from the previous version, and the contents of this kit match that.
Finish, paint and weather the interior and the running gear first, because once the hull is closed you will not reach them again. Clean the individual track links of their gates in advance and assemble them in longer runs, and only then stretch them over the wheels. The large surfaces call out for an airbrush, for preshading and for gradual color modulation. The broken-up surface then stands out once a wash goes into the recesses and dry pigments are used on the underside of the hull and on the running gear. Degrease the metal barrel and cover it with a primer before painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
