A large plastic kit of the modern American guided missile destroyer USS Oscar Austin (DDG-79) of the Arleigh Burke class in 1:200 scale from the I Love Kit brand. The package contains injection-molded plastic complemented by metal and photo-etched parts and a stand; the assembled model measures almost 78 cm.
USS Oscar Austin is the first unit of the Flight IIA subvariant of the Arleigh Burke class and carries the Aegis combat system with the SPY-1D radar and Mk 41 vertical launching cells. She was commissioned in 2000. The Arleigh Burke is the most numerous class of modern destroyers of the US Navy, capable of the air defense, anti-ship and anti-submarine roles, and it is still being built in upgraded variants today. The Flight IIA subvariant brought, among other things, a hangar for two shipboard helicopters.
The large 1:200 scale gives room for detail - bond the metal and photo-etched parts with super glue. An airbrush is recommended for the uniform gray of the hull and the superstructures, and the panel lines should be brought out with a wash. Given the dimensions, build the model in subassemblies; the large hull surfaces call for an even coat and patient masking of the waterline. A sizable model needs a solid stand and plenty of room in a display case.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
