About product

USS Nautilus (SSN-571) 1:305: a plastic kit (Revell)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the American nuclear submarine USS Nautilus (SSN-571) in 1:305 scale from Revell. The package holds plastic parts with a faithfully rendered hull and surface detail, decals for authentic markings and a stand for display. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The USS Nautilus was the first operational nuclear-powered submarine in the world, commissioned by the US Navy in the 1950s. Nuclear power let her make long voyages submerged and she was the first vessel to manage an underwater transit beneath the North Pole. She marked a fundamental turning point in the development of submarine forces.

Building and painting tips

  • Glue the hull halves together carefully and sand the seam down for a smooth surface.
  • Use thin cement for plastic and apply a primer before painting.
  • Spray the hull with an airbrush, apply the decals onto gloss varnish and even the surface out with matte varnish.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of naval equipment and lovers of submarine history.
  • Modelers who will appreciate a striking model of a smaller scale on a stand.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
