A themed set from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM in 1:35 scale focused on the American expeditionary units operating in Europe in 1918. ICM puts sets of this kind together so that a coherent scene on one theme can be built from them, that is vehicles and figures matched to each other in scale and period. Everything is supplied unassembled and unpainted on sprues; for the build you need glue for plastic, paints and basic tools.
The year 1918 is the closing phase of the First World War, when the American units operated on the European battlefield in greater numbers. The vehicles of that time differ markedly from the later periods: what predominated were vehicles derived from civilian designs with tall spoked wheels, canvas roofs and simple bodies. For a modeler it is a rewarding theme precisely because it does not resemble the more common subjects of the Second World War in shape and catches the eye at once in a display case.
With vehicles that have thin frames and wheel spokes, proceed patiently; the parts are slender and are easily deformed. Build on a flat surface, so that the model stands on all its wheels. Use a thin glue for plastic, which is drawn into the joint by capillary action. Apply a primer before painting, then the base shade, and build the patina up in layers: a dark wash into the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and finally pigments for mud and dust. With figures, paint skin and cloth separately, soften the transitions and finish the faces last, as the whole impression rests on them.
Everything is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
