Bronco Bailey bridge, Double-Double M1 form is a plastic kit of a military panel bridge for a diorama in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the British military panel bridge in 1:35 scale from Bronco. It is not a vehicle, but a structure for a diorama. This is the Double-Double form, that is the strongest common configuration, in which the load-bearing structure consists of two panels side by side in two tiers on each side; it was exactly this configuration that carried even heavy tanks.
The Bailey bridge was a British invention of 1941 and is among the most important engineering contributions to the Allied victory. It consisted of steel panels in the shape of a lattice girder, which were light enough for a party of men to carry without a crane and which were joined with pins. According to the load capacity and the span needed, the panels were put together in one, two or three rows and in one to three tiers. Engineers could put a bridge across a river in a matter of hours, even under fire. Bridges of this system are still being built today.
The panels are repeating parts, so build one first and check the procedure; only then go into series. Work on a flat surface and ideally over a template, so that the bridge comes out straight; a sagging structure is conspicuous in a diorama. Paint the whole structure before you set it onto the base. Olive or dark green paint comes alive with rust in the pins and on the panel edges; dirty the deck with track marks and dust so that the bridge does not look unused.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, a base and vehicles are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
