A kit set in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. It is the second part of a themed series devoted to the accident at the nuclear power plant at Chernobyl and concentrates on the fire fighters. In extent it is a set of vehicles in 1:35 scale, not a single figure. The exact make-up of the package and the number of parts are given in the enclosed instructions; the contents of the box are what count.
During the accident at the fourth block of the nuclear power plant at Chernobyl in April 1986, the first to respond were the fire brigades of the plant and of the nearby town of Pripyat. They turned out with the ordinary fire-fighting vehicles of Soviet manufacture of the day and in ordinary turnout gear, without equipment matching the real nature of the event. For a modeler the theme is interesting precisely for its combination of civilian vehicles, unusual color schemes and a night scene, which appear only rarely in the ordinary range of 1:35 scale.
Plan the scene before you start gluing — with a set of this kind a number of parts are better painted separately and fitted at the end. Finish the interior and the chassis before closing the body. The red shades of fire-fighting vehicles cover poorly, so spray them over a light or pink base in thin coats and lay on a gloss varnish before the decals. Keep the weathering in check: a vehicle in service is not wrecked, and a little dust in the lower part, a dark wash into the joints and discreet shading of the panels are enough. Paint the figures separately, the faces in layers from a base skin tone through a lightening to a dark shadow. Bring the whole thing together with matte varnish at the end, returning gloss only to the glass and the beacons.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
