About product

ICM 1:72 Tu-2T, the Soviet torpedo aircraft

An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from a Ukrainian manufacturer, capturing the naval torpedo version of the fast twin-engine Tu-2 bomber. It is a modern mold with fine engraved surface detail, suited to collectors of Soviet aviation.

The real subject

The Tu-2 was a Soviet twin-engine fast bomber of the Second World War with good flight performance and a decent load. The Tu-2T version was developed as a naval torpedo aircraft: it was fitted with special racks that allowed it to carry two aerial torpedoes. The modification was created and tested in the spring of 1945, and torpedo machines derived from the Tu-2 then served with Soviet naval aviation in the postwar years as well.

Building and painting tips

Finish and paint the interiors of the crew positions and the engine nacelles before you close them up. Use thin cement for plastic and mask the glazing while spraying. Lay down gloss varnish before the decals and even the surface out with a matte coat at the end. Fit the torpedoes and the external stores carefully right at the end of the build. An airbrush and a base coat of primer are ideal for spraying.

  • anyone interested in naval and torpedo aircraft
