The German KDO Mod. 40 command rangefinder with the Sd.Ah. 52 trailer is a plastic kit of a German optical air defense fire-control instrument with its trailer in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the German KDO Mod. 40 command rangefinder, that is the Kommandogerät instrument, with the two-wheeled Sd.Ah. 52 trailer, in 1:35 scale from Bronco. It is neither a vehicle nor a weapon, but an optical and computing instrument that directed the fire of an anti-aircraft battery.
A German anti-aircraft battery did not have each gun firing on its own account. In the middle of the position stood the Kommandogerät command instrument: an optical rangefinder with two eyepieces set far apart, which measured the distance, altitude and speed of the aircraft, and a mechanical computing machine, which worked out the lead from that and passed the laying data to the guns. It was this instrument that turned the 8.8 cm guns into effective air defense — without it, firing at a fast aircraft was essentially guesswork. The instrument traveled on a two-wheeled trailer and was lifted off it in the position.
The optical instrument has many small parts and is really the main subject of the build, so give it time and assemble it separately. Decide at the start whether you will build the instrument in its working position on the tripod or loaded on the trailer. You can suggest the glass elements of the optics with a drop of gloss varnish or clear resin, which helps the model a great deal. If rubber tires for the trailer are included, fit them onto the rims dry. These instruments were well looked after, so go easy on the wear; dust belongs mainly on the trailer.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
