The HMMWV class of vehicle replaced several different types at once at the end of the 1970s: the light off-road car, the ambulance and the weapons carrier. The version with the extended axle and the strengthened chassis became the universal workhorse: it carried an infantry squad, ammunition, signals equipment and missile containers, and when the battlefield changed, panels of add-on armor were added to it. It is characterized by a low silhouette with a wide track, thanks to which the vehicle copes with steep side slopes, and by independent suspension on all wheels with high-mounted geared hubs.
This item is put together as a gift package for anyone who does not want to hunt for the equipment separately. Alongside the sprues of parts and the decal sheet there is a set of paints, a brush and glue in the box, so building can start as soon as it is opened.
A practical note: the paints enclosed are enough for the base coat, but for shading and drybrushing it tends to be sensible to add shades according to your own habit. Resin and photo-etched accessories are not included; this is purely a plastic build.
The build will benefit if the chassis frame and the axles are glued separately and left in peace to cure on a flat surface; only then will all four wheels sit on the ground without rocking. It pays to paint the tires before the hubs are fitted, because then nothing has to be laboriously masked off.
