The set from the Polish manufacturer Aber contains an accurate turned metal barrel of the Israeli 105 mm M-68 tank gun for a model of the Tiran 5 tank in 1:35 scale, in the variant A version. This is a detail accessory, not a vehicle kit. The metal barrel replaces the plastic part, removes the mold seam, holds an accurate circular section and offers a faithfully made muzzle. The variant A designation distinguishes this particular rendering of the barrel from the second version offered, which differs in the detail of the external shape.
Tiran 5 is the Israeli designation for captured Soviet T-55 tanks, which the Israeli army rearmed and modified to its own standards after the wars of 1967 and 1973. The most striking change was the replacement of the original 100 mm gun with the 105 mm M-68, the Israeli counterpart of the widely used Western tank gun. The vehicles were given new hull and turret equipment, different stowage baskets and machine gun armament following Israeli practice. The Tirans served in the Israeli army for a number of years and some of them were later converted into armored personnel carriers.
The metal barrel is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and two-part epoxy suits larger mating faces. First degrease the parts with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and roughen the surfaces. Apply an adhesion primer before painting. Israeli vehicles are usually painted in a desert sand shade, so the barrel comes out well with drybrushing and fine dust pigments; pick out the muzzle with restrained sooting.
