An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet self-propelled anti-aircraft system ZSU-57-2 in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the open fighting turret with a pair of 57 mm automatic guns, a well detailed interior of the fighting compartment and the running gear. Link-by-link track parts, a copper tow cable and a range of external details such as tools, jerrycans and stowage boxes are included.
The ZSU-57-2 was a Soviet self-propelled anti-aircraft system introduced in the 1950s. On a lightened chassis derived from the T-54 medium tank it carried an open rotating turret with a twin 57 mm gun intended to destroy low-flying targets. The open top of the turret made serving the gun and venting the fumes easier, but it also exposed the crew to the weather and to splinters. The vehicle was widely exported and in a number of conflicts it was also used for firing at ground targets.
First assemble the running gear and the interior of the fighting compartment, because the open turret leaves the inside permanently in view. Glue the link-by-link track parts with liquid cement for plastic and shape them before they dry for a realistic sag. Apply a primer and the base shade with an airbrush; bring out the interior and the guns with shading and a wash. Pigments on the running gear will create convincing mud and dust effects.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
