The subject is a German upper-class passenger car of the W142 series in the form with a folding soft roof. The manufacturer also makes other body variants of the same series, so a whole family of cars can be built.
The Typ 320 belonged among the prestige German cars of the second half of the 1930s. It carried an inline six-cylinder engine, had the classic layout with rear-wheel drive and was offered in several body forms, from a closed sedan through a convertible to the open version with a soft roof. It was exactly the combination of decent performance, comfort and reliability that caused cars of this class to appear in large numbers in staff service after the outbreak of the war, where they carried officers and worked as liaison vehicles. The designation W142 is the factory code of the series and modelers easily tell this type apart from similar looking cars of other lines by it. The open version is a rewarding one from the modeling point of view, because it shows the interior and directly invites the addition of figures.
Start with the chassis, the engine and the interior, and only then settle the body in place. On an open car the interior is visible, so it pays to devote more work to it than on the closed versions and to paint it before the body is closed up. Mask the glazing before spraying. Glue with a thin modeling cement for plastic, sand the seams over and even the surface out with primer. The body of a passenger car has large smooth surfaces, so it pays to spray thin coats and to leave any gloss to the final clear coat. The weathering should stay moderate, staff cars tended to be looked after; fine dust on the wheel arches and the wheels and a dark wash into the grilles and the seams is enough.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
