The German fast boats known as the Schnellboot were among the fastest vessels of their size in the Second World War. They operated mainly at night, setting out in pairs and small groups against coastal convoys and relying on a quick getaway after an attack. Their main weapon was the torpedo tubes in the bow, complemented by light anti-aircraft armament. The S-100 class is a later form in which the command position received an armored superstructure, because the crew on the bridge was the most vulnerable in a night gunfight. Power came from diesel engines, which was an advantage over the gasoline-engined boats of the opposition as far as fire risk was concerned.
The real boat measured around thirty-five meters, so in 1:350 scale a finished model works out at roughly ten centimeters. That is a size that suits a display case and also the water surface of a small diorama, where the boat can be set into a squat with a wake astern. The kit is supplied unassembled and without paints.
Separate the small parts first, sand the production remnants down and fill the hull joints carefully, since on ships they show most on continuous surfaces. Wash and degrease the model before painting. Finally a restrained emphasis of the details pays off so that a model in a small scale does not look flat.
Paints, glue, filler and a base are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
