The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. This type has been issued in more than one boxing, so what decides when choosing is the exact wording of the name, including the note about the early configuration.
The B-26K Counter Invader came about through an extensive rebuild of the older Douglas A-26 Invader attack aircraft. The aim was to bring a proven airframe into the conditions of counter-insurgency operations, where flying was done low, for long hours and from simple airfields. The rebuild touched the load-bearing structure of the wing, the powerplant, the equipment of the cockpit and the ability to carry stores under the wing. Early and later machines differ outwardly in details of fittings and in the equipment of the wingtips, so the choice of boxing determines what particular form the finished model will take.
A twin-engine aircraft in 1:48 stands or falls on preparation: the cockpit interior is finished before the fuselage is closed, and it is worth trying straight away whether the model will sit back on its tail. The glazing is masked before the primer goes on. The engine nacelles are best fitted after a dry fit, so that the propellers sit in the same plane. A matte camouflage scheme is sprayed with an airbrush in thin coats; the area under the decals is given a coat of gloss varnish and, once dry, everything is unified with a matte one. The finish belongs to bringing out the panel lines and a mild soiling of the underside of the fuselage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
