ICM 1:48 Do 217J-1/2 is an injection-molded plastic kit of the German twin-engine night fighter and attack aircraft of the Second World War in 1:48 scale.

An injection-molded plastic kit from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. The designation J-1/2 in the name refers to two sub-versions of the same type, which differ from each other in equipment and purpose. The 1:48 scale is a good compromise with twin-engine aircraft: the model is a reasonable size for a cabinet and at the same time carries the detail that is lost in a smaller scale.
The Do 217J came about by converting the Do 217E bomber into a night fighter and attack aircraft. The glazed nose of the bomber was replaced by a solid nose with a battery of barrel armament. The J-1 version kept the bomb bay and was intended for attack duties, whereas the J-2 was a pure night fighter: it carried an airborne radar with characteristic antennas on the nose and its bomb bay was sealed off. BMW 801 radial engines provided the power. In its day the type was a fairly heavy and large machine, which showed in its agility. Besides the Luftwaffe it was also used by the Regia Aeronautica.
Finish and paint the cockpit and the interior of the front section before you join the fuselage halves. Check the engine nacelles and the leading edges dry, as it is exactly here that a gap most often appears on twin-engine aircraft, one that then has to be filled and sanded across the engraving. If you are building the version with radar, leave the antenna masts until the very end, after clear coating and drying — they are the most fragile parts of the model. Night schemes tend to be dark and monotonous over large areas; to keep the model from looking flat, preshading or slightly lightening the centers of the panels helps. Spray gloss clear under the decals and seal the whole thing with matte after the wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
