Responsibility details are not available.
An unassembled and unpainted injection-molded plastic kit of the General Dynamics F-111 bomber in the D and E versions in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Hobby Boss. The box contains a large number of parts on a series of sprues, clear parts, rubber tires, decals with two marking options for US Air Force aircraft and illustrated instructions. The kit is conceived generously: it has complete engines, a separately worked out crew escape module, the radar under removable nose panels, extended flaps and slats and a wide choice of external stores, pods and tanks. The wing is built in the forward (spread) position; the kit does not allow the geometry to be changed, so the finished model is fairly large and needs room in the display case.
The F-111 Aardvark, a nickname it owed to its long nose, was a two-seat supersonic tactical bomber with a variable-geometry wing. Thanks to terrain-following radar, which automatically copied the relief of the landscape, it flew extremely low and fast, at night and in poor visibility too. The crew did not sit on ejection seats: the F-111 had a crew escape module, and in an emergency the whole sealed cockpit separated from the aircraft with both crew members inside, came down on a parachute and had the impact cushioned by bags that also served as floats. The module was watertight, it floated and it could serve as a shelter until rescue arrived. The F-111D received new-generation digital avionics, more powerful engines and revised air intakes, but suffered from unreliability; the F-111E was a simpler interim step, taking over the new air intakes but keeping the engines and the analog avionics of the original A version.
Use liquid cement for polystyrene applied into the joints by capillary action. Most of the work goes on lining up the fuselage, the engine nacelles and the air intakes: fill the gaps and sand them through several grits. Finish and paint the cockpit and the escape module before you close the fuselage; with the tricycle landing gear, try the balance out in advance and add weight in the nose if needed. Paint with an airbrush over a coat of primer, apply a gloss clear coat under the decals, bring out the panel lines with a wash and finish the model with a matte or semi-matte clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
