A plastic kit of the two-seat F-15E Strike Eagle combat aircraft in the popular 1:48 aircraft scale. Italeri is an Italian maker with a long tradition and a wide choice of modern and historical hardware. For aircraft, 1:48 is a sensible compromise: the model is big enough for the interior and the stores to be worked out, and it still fits an ordinary display case.
The F-15E Strike Eagle is the two-seat strike version of the F-15 family, derived from the air superiority fighter but reworked for attacks on ground targets in all weathers and at night. A weapon systems officer sits in the rear cockpit. The aircraft is recognized by the conformal fuel tanks along the sides of the fuselage, which extend its range without taking up hardpoints for armament. Against the fighter version it has a strengthened structure and a substantially higher payload. It has been in service since the second half of the 1980s and is one of the hardest-worked types in the US Air Force.
Finish both cockpits before closing up the fuselage, as on a two-seater the interior is well visible through the large canopy. Spray the air intakes and the exhaust nozzles separately and fit them only once painted. Plan the stores in advance; the wing and the tanks have specific attachment points that are best cleaned up before you start painting. The typical dark gray finish of the aircraft easily looks flat, so spray it in layers and modulate the shade gently panel by panel. Apply a gloss varnish before the decals and a flat one once it has dried. Bring out the panel lines with a flowing wash and add restrained streaks around the hatches and the exhaust nozzles.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
