A modeling set in 1:48 scale on the theme of a forward field base. The contents of the package and the recommended sequence are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Responsibility details are not available.
A forward base is a field post set up close to the area of operations. It has no permanent hangars and no paved surfaces of a fixed airfield; here the aircraft are refueled, checked and prepared for the next take-off in the open air, often with nothing more than what was brought to the spot. That is exactly what makes it a rewarding theme for a modeler: it shows hardware in everyday service, not polished up in a display case.
A scene from a forward base connects the model with its surroundings. The machine stops standing alone on a shelf and is given both scale and a story: the beaten-down ground beneath it, the traces of activity around it and the equipment that belongs to work in the open. At the same time it is a way of filling the space around the model without building a whole large diorama.
What holds the whole scene together is a unified shade. It pays to keep to a muted palette and to lay the paints on in thin coats so that the individual elements do not each look different. Work the dust and mud from the bottom upwards and only where they would really reach. Small elements are easier to paint separately and to set onto the base only once they are done. The recommended sequence and the range of parts are given in the instructions supplied with the set.
For builders of scenes and dioramas in 1:48 scale who want to give the model surroundings that match the environment the hardware really worked in. Paints, glue and other modeling supplies are not included, unless stated otherwise.
