An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet biplane I-153 in 1:48 scale from ICM. This modern tooling features finely engraved panel lines and a detailed cockpit and engine section. The package includes gray plastic parts, clear glazing parts, and a decal sheet.
The I-153 was the last series-production biplane from N. N. Polikarpov's design bureau. Its hallmark is a gull-shaped upper wing (hence the nickname Chaika, meaning gull) and, unusually for a biplane, retractable landing gear. It was powered by an M-62 radial engine, and later series had the more powerful M-63, and it carried four ShKAS machine guns. It was built from 1939 to 1941 and, together with the I-16, formed the backbone of Soviet fighter aviation at the start of the Great Patriotic War.
Glue the plastic joints with thin liquid plastic cement that wicks into the seam. Apply a base primer before painting and spray the shades with an airbrush. Pay attention to the interplane struts and any added rigging wires, which give a biplane its accurate look. Decide in advance whether you will show the landing gear retracted or extended.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
