A plastic kit of the Soviet I-153 fighter biplane in a boxing that also holds figures of pilots and ground personnel and is devoted to machines in the service of the Luftwaffe. ICM is a Ukrainian manufacturer known for clean molds and carefully broken-down interiors.
The I-153, nicknamed Chaika, was the last attempt to keep the biplane in a fighter role. Its upper wing had a characteristic crank into a gull-wing shape that improved the pilot's view forward, and unlike its predecessors the machine received retractable landing gear. It was powered by a radial engine and at the time it appeared it was an exceptionally agile aircraft, but by 1941 it no longer had the speed. Some machines ended up in enemy hands and were used for training and auxiliary duties, which is exactly the subject of this release.
Finish and paint the cabin first, and only then join the fuselage halves. Seat the upper wing on its struts in a jig or at least against a straight edge, so that it stays parallel with the lower one. The fabric surfaces of the tail take a subtle hint of a darker tone along the ribs. The faces of the figures come out when, after the base tone, they are deepened with a thin brown shade and the light areas are lifted instead.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints and glue are not in the package.
