About product

North American P-51A Mustang 1:48 (ICM)

This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from ICM captures the early P-51A Mustang version. It was the last version with the American Allison V12 engine, before the switch to the Merlin. The model comes as a set of plastic parts with engraved panel lines and the framed canopy typical of early Mustangs.

The real subject

The P-51A appeared in 1942 and was a development stage on the way to the famous fighter. The Allison engine gave good performance at low and medium altitudes, so the P-51A was used mainly as a fighter-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. It saw combat in India, Burma and China in 1943, among other places.

Building and painting tips

Glue with liquid cement for plastic and sand the seams carefully. The framed canopy comes into its own once painted and can be masked. Camouflage on the early version is usually olive drab over a gray underside, sometimes with the striking tactical markings of the Asian and Pacific theater.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of early Mustang versions
  • Anyone interested in aircraft of the China and Burma theater
  • Modelers looking for a less common variant
  • Beginners and advanced builders alike

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
