This set from ICM brings together an injection-molded plastic kit of the British fighter Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX and a set of figures of RAF personnel. Besides the aircraft itself with its well-worked cockpit and clear parts, the box contains figures of pilots and ground personnel and small airfield equipment, so that a whole airfield scene can be built. The decal sheet covers period markings.
The Spitfire Mk.IX was created by fitting a more powerful engine into the airframe of an older type and became one of the most widespread and most successful versions of the Spitfire. It was used in many roles, from high-altitude and low-altitude fighter to fighter-bomber, and it fought in the European theater. The accompanying figures capture the typical bustle of a frontline airfield.
Paint and fit the cockpit before closing the fuselage; use thin cement on the plastic and sand the seams. Spray the aircraft with an airbrush over a base coat, and mask the British schemes. The figures come alive with layered painting of skin and uniform shades; fine-tune the scene with the small airfield equipment.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
