An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb fighter in the popular display case scale of 1:48 from the maker Airfix. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The number of parts, the contents of the package and the number of decal schemes are given in the enclosed instructions.
The Spitfire Mk.V was the most numerously produced version of the whole family and in the Royal Air Force it formed the backbone of the fighter squadrons in 1941 and 1942. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine of the 45 series. The letter B in the designation Mk.Vb refers to the wing with mixed armament, that is a combination of cannon of 20 mm caliber and machine guns of 7.7 mm caliber. The aircraft was built in standards for low as well as high altitudes, and a number of machines flew with a so-called tropical filter under the fuselage in the Mediterranean and in North Africa. The elliptical wing, which gives the type its unmistakable silhouette, remained on this version too.
Paint the cockpit and add the straps before you glue the fuselage up — once it is closed, only a fraction is visible. Prepare masks before gluing the glazing in, so that you do not have to make laborious repairs where the paint has run over. Use thin cement on the plastic, sand the joints of the fuselage and the leading edges carefully and restore the fine engraving with a scriber if necessary. Lay the paints on with an airbrush over a primer; you will manage camouflage with a sharp boundary using masks of modeling putty or raised tape. Clear coat the surfaces with a gloss before the decals and even the surface out with a matte one once it has dried.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
