The real subject

The Supermarine Walrus was a British amphibian biplane with a boat-shaped hull and a pusher propeller mounted behind the cabin. It was launched by catapult from the decks of battleships and cruisers and became famous above all as a machine for reconnaissance, for spotting the fall of artillery fire and, most of all, for rescuing downed airmen from the sea. It served with the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force during World War II and, despite its unusual appearance, it was one of the most useful machines of its kind.

Building and painting tips

Glue the parts with a thin plastic cement; on a biplane, give attention to the interplane struts and the bracing wires, and it helps to plan the sequence in advance and to use stretched sprue. Glue the glazing carefully with a canopy glue. Paint the interior before closing the fuselage. After a gloss coat and the decals, accentuate the panel lines with a wash and add traces of service and of sea salt.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of British naval and rescue aircraft
  • Modelers experienced with building biplanes and with bracing wires
  • Anyone interested in amphibians and seaplanes of World War II

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
