The Z-19 is a Chinese light helicopter intended for reconnaissance and for supporting ground units. Structurally it follows the earlier range of light machines with a box-section tail boom and a tail rotor enclosed in a duct, a solution that reduces noise and increases safety when operating close to the ground. Compared with the original utility machine the Z-19 was given a completely new forward section with a tandem cockpit layout, where the pilot and the operator sit one behind the other, armor protection for the crew and weapon stations on short stub wings on the sides of the fuselage. The helicopter serves with the army aviation as a scout and light attack asset, typically paired with heavier machines for which it finds and marks targets. The silhouette with the tall tandem canopy and the ducted tail rotor is unmistakable for the type.
A helicopter is built from the bottom up: finish and paint the interior of the cockpit first, because a good deal of it is visible under the tandem canopy. Mask the glazing and glue it with a cement intended for clear parts that does not fog the surface. Fit the main rotor blades right at the end and watch out for their identical pitch; when the model is on display, a slight droop of the blades at rest looks better. The ducted tail rotor calls for patient cleaning up of the inner wall. Spray the basic green-gray coats with an airbrush and grade them finely, bring out the panel lines with a thin wash and apply the wear around the walkways and the engine covers sparingly so that the model looks like a machine in active service.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
