Injection-molded plastic kit of a Viking longship from Revell in 1:50 scale. It is a sailing vessel, so the build includes a mast, a yard with a sail and rigging; the carved dragon prow and the row of oars and shields along the sides are typical as well. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; for the exact contents of the package, follow the instructions enclosed and the markings on the box.
The Viking longship was a long vessel of shallow draft, driven by sail as well as by oars. Thanks to its shallow bottom it could sail up rivers and land straight on a beach, and the symmetrical bow and stern allowed a quick change of direction. These ships made the Vikings' long-distance voyages, trade and raids across the whole of northern Europe possible and were a symbol of their seamanship.
Finish and paint the hull with its characteristic clinker planking and the decks first, and only then build the mast and fit the oars and shields. Wood comes alive with glazes and a wash in the seams; the shields offer room for colored patterns. Tension the rigging symmetrically with thread; if you use the sail, you can pick it out with stripes. Finish the carved prow separately.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
