Injection-molded plastic kit of the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier of the Nimitz class in 1:700 scale. The model captures the ship as she looked in the mid-1970s, that is shortly after she entered service, and the enclosed aircraft match that period: F-4J Phantom II, A-7 Corsair II, A-6 Intruder, RA-5C Vigilante, E-2C Hawkeye, A-3 Skywarrior and SH-3 Sea King helicopters. Both a full-hull and a waterline version can be built, the elevators and the jet blast deflectors behind the catapults are made as movable parts, and the aircraft are in clear plastic.
USS Nimitz is the first unit of the class of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers that bears her name, and she entered service in 1975. Replacing conventional propulsion with a nuclear reactor gave the ship practically unlimited range and freed up space for aviation ordnance and fuel for the air wing. Her mid-1970s appearance differs from later years both in the equipment of the island and the radars and, above all, in the make-up of the air wing, which at that time still included types retired in the decades that followed.
The flight deck is what the eye goes to, so prepare it carefully: even the surface out first, then handle the markings and the landing area with masks or decals. It is practical to spray the aircraft while they are still on the sprues and to glue them on right at the end, as they get in the way otherwise. For the full-hull version count on the stand, for the waterline one on the enclosed clear sea base. The side of the hull comes to life with gentle highlighting of the vertical seams.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
